French pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard has teamed up with publisher G. Henle Verlag to offer a series of master classes in honour of the 150th birthday of French composer Maurice Ravel (1875 – 1937). This piano course is intended for young professional pianists who wish to receive advice and guidance from a leading interpreter of Ravel’s music.

Six students will have the opportunity to study Ravel’s music with Aimard and the classes are to be held in the historical setting of the Schloss Fürstenried on the Southern outskirts of the city of Munich in Germany. The venue is a picturesque palace with surrounding park, dating from the 17th century: click on the YouTube link below for more information. The master classes will take place in the main building and accommodation is provided for students in the building’s annex.
Each student will receive three 45-minute public lessons with Pierre-Laurent Aimard, and they will also be able to observe their fellow participant’s classes. Private group de-briefing sessions at the end of each day are designed to support student personal development. During the course, there will also be a chance for participants to attend workshop sessions from renowned piano technician Stefan Knüpfer, who was a teacher at the Steinway Academy in Hamburg, Germany for many years.
This series runs from June 5th – 8th 2025. Schloss Fürstenried affords modest accommodation for participants and communal meals are served in the dining hall. Students are expected to stay in Schloss Fürstenried for the duration of the classes. For those interested, applications must be submitted before February 15 2025.
