Historic Classes with Arthur Rubinstein

Arthur Rubinstein

This post highlights a series of historic classes with the legendary Polish born pianist Arthur Rubinstein (1887 – 1982). Considered by many as the greatest interpreter of Chopin, Rubinstein gave these classes in 1978 at the Jerusalem Music Centre, and they traverse a whole selection of repertoire including Beethoven, Schubert, Chopin, Brahms, Debussy, Ravel, and Scriabin. I hope you find them of interest.

Fantastic. Sadly Rubinstein’s eyesight was failing him, but not his spirit or his tone. This is wonderful. BTW is that non other than Mr Bronfman in the first video on the Chopin Ballade?

    1. Thank you! Yes, I believe it is Yefim Bronfman in the first video….

Hello. Do you know the name of the young pianist girl who played Preludes of Sriabin for Rubinstein during this master class ? Has she become a well-known pianist today ? She appears in the video no 2, starting around 5:29. Thank you.

    1. Many thanks for your comment. From the comments under the video on YouTube it looks as though the pianist is Sonia Rubinsky, who is a Brazilian pianist. I’ve no idea about her career today, sorry!

That was Michal Tal. Near the end of her portion of the video, Rubinstein asked for her name, which is how I know. You can find much more information about her on her website, https://www.michaltal.co.il/ or by googling her. She seems to have had a very successful career thus far and has won quite a few prizes.

      1. Many thanks for this information, Liam. Melanie
