Remain Composed Podcast

Happy World Piano Day!

Today is World Piano Day, which is now an annual worldwide event. It takes place on the 88th day of the year because of the number of keys on the instrument being celebrated. Established in 2015, by composer Nils Frahm, it is now well known across the globe, and it forms the inspiration for concerts, both onstage and online, as well as radio shows, podcasts, and playlists.

My contribution to this event takes shape in the form of a podcast. A couple of weeks ago, I recorded a podcast with William King, who is a presenter and assistant producer on the Jeremy Vine Show on BBC Radio 2. William has established an interesting project interviewing composers and songwriters, delving into the many reasons why they decided to become composers and what drives them to write music. The series is now becoming a popular outlet for those who write and create music around the world.

It was great fun speaking to William and our chat lasted around 30 minutes. We focused on discussing educational piano music, how and why it’s created, and how one can become involved in this genre, and we also spoke about my piano anthologies, particularly my Play it again: PIANO and Women Composers projects, and how one chooses suitable compositions to include in these volumes, as well as my work for Pianist magazine.
