One aspect of writing books that I particularly enjoy is the opportunity to meet teachers and students at workshops and book presentations. This year, I will be doing a fair few workshops all around the country, as well as some abroad. In February, I’m looking forward to visiting Newcastle and York for two Play it again: PIANO workshops; the first is to be held on Saturday February 15th at J G Windows music shop in Newcastle, and the second, on Sunday February 16th at Banks Musicroom shop in York. The former has already sold out, and I can only apologise if you were intending to come, however, there are still some tickets left at Banks in York (see the image above for more details).
My workshops will focus on basic piano technique via two different presentations. The first workshop will examine the importance of wrist, arm, and hand flexibility, all of which are necessary for developing a relaxed technique free from tension, alongside the cultivation of firmer fingers (and thumbs!) and a deep touch. And the second workshop will build on these concepts exploring how to practically apply them using scales, arpeggios and various technical exercises. These workshops tie in nicely with much of the information in my three-book piano course, Play it again: PIANO (Schott).
All audience members will receive printed notes to take away with them, and there will be plenty of audience participation, as, in my opinion, the best way to learn any new concept is to try it out for yourself.
The workshops are free and both J G Windows music shop and Banks Musicroom will be providing refreshments. My books will be on sale and there will be plenty of time to peruse the shop, too. I look forward to meeting you.
