The first competition of the New Year features a series written by Paul Harris and published by Faber Music. A piece a week is just that: a repertoire of short pieces for Elementary pupils to learn in a week, encouraging quick study and instant score recognition; these volumes could also be used as sight-reading for more advanced student. They are companions to the Improve your sight-reading! Series also published by Faber and written by Paul.

The ‘Improve your Sight-reading’ series is wonderful. My goal this year is to have my pupils experience more repertoire and the ‘piece a week’ concept sounds ideal! I would love to use these books to help my pupils improve their reading and musicianship skills!

What a great idea. Learning a piece a week would give the student a real sense of achievement and you can never have too much sight reading material – this is the first time I’ve seen these Paul Harris books and they look great.

I always believe in Paul Harris’ concept of simultaneous learning. It is the best way to make sense when learning music. He is always full of great ideas for students and learning sight reading as a repertoire will definitely connect the dots.
I have a new student who want to improve her sight reading skills. I would love to use this with my new student and possibly with other students in my studio as well.

I love playing the piano, its my favourite instrument of all time. I am a unsigned singer songwriter that does live improvisation on the piano. I used to have lessons, I’d love to relook at my sightreading skills, the books sound very useful towards achieving this.
Sight reading is such an important skill and these books look like a motivating way for students to improve their sight-reading skills.

I heard Paul Harris mention these on a podcast with Tim Topham & they sounded great. I wasn’t sure when they were coming out but they sound perfect for the 30-piece challenge I’m trying out with some of my students this year.
